Activities and Events

  • Science Fair.  While participation is only required for certain grades, all students are encouraged to participate in the annual Science Fair.  Projects range from collections, to experiments, to hands on demonstrations.  And on the day of the Fair, parents, friends and relatives come for an evening of science-filled fun.

  • Grandparents' Day.  This is a special day where grandparents get to spend the day with their student actually  getting to see what their school day is like.  The day starts with a Chapel service, then grandparents go to the child's classroom to observe, and finally, enjoy a pizza lunch with their grandchild.

  • Spelling Bee.  All students in 1st through 8th grade are invited to participate in the school Spelling Bee.  Ribbons are awared to all participants, and medals and prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

  • Historic Character Visit.  An important man or woman from U.S. history visits the school to make history come alive for the students.  Past visits have included portrayers of Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln and Benjamin Franklin.

  • Spring Festival.  This is one of the most anticipated times of the year for the students.  It's a time of excitement and lots of work as they practice and prepare for the annual school play.  Some years, they put on a whole school play and other years the 5th - 8th graders put on their own play and the younger students put on their own play. Plays are performed at St. Croix Lutheran High School.

  • Choir.  Regularly during the school year, students take part in church worship services by singing praises to their Lord.  They also have a special Christmas program celebrating the birth of the Savior.

  • Arts and Crafts Fair.  Students exhibit their creativity by showcasing various forms of art they have done throughout the year.

  • Track and Field Day.  Students spend the morning competing in various relay races.  Parents come to cheer them on and have a few laughs watching the children race like crabs or sprint while holding a peanut on a spoon.

  • School Picnic.  The end of the year is marked by the annual School Picnic held in an area park.  After plenty of play time, the grills are fired up and hot dogs and burgers are served along with lots of other good eats.  Awards are handed out for students' various accomplishments during the school year.  Then the grades split up and classmates enjoy a little good natured competition with each other, engaging in some creative races.

Field Trips

Field trips are an important part of the educational experience, allowing students to learn in a different environment.  Students have taken field trips to many and varied places including, but not limited to:  the Fur Post, the Science Museum, the Art Institute of Minneapolis, Gibb's Farm, Crystal Cave, Fort Snelling, Twins games, and theatrical plays and musicals.
